There is a Food Service Manger/Cook in each of facility who not only does the paper work but is also is the cook. To reach the Kitchen Manager call the school and ask for the kitchen but be aware of the time of day to avoid the busiest meal times please.
All the schools would welcome volunteers to help with production, you may call the Managers for dates and times.
The Foodservice operation is seperate but included under the RSU#24. Our budget is over a million dollars with contributions by RSU#24 approximently 1/4 of the operateing cost. That means that the schools need to remain 3/4 self sustaining in order to not increase the tax payers burden. Most all our food and non food purchased needs are under a competitive contract. With the needs of all the ten Schools combined together our volume makes us able to save especially in the smaller schools.
All the Kitchen staff meet together monthly in order to stay current with changes, receive training, review product and support each other with ideas that work.
One of my goals for our Food Service Department is to produce more healthier foods for our students, not just to help with the nation problem of child obesity but to help teach our students about good nutrition for their life. We have a school board supported Wellness policy, along with a determination to qualify for the Heathier U.S. School Challenge. Both ask us for a commitment of more fresh fruit and vegetables, whole grain foods, milk with less fat, less sugar and salt. We need lots more local farm raised products and lots more colaboration of student, family and community to obtain this goal. We are ready and have begun this journey please jump in anytime!
