March Into the Arts!

As we take a break from our STEM activities and cahllenges, during the month of March, we will explore the arts.  From the culinary arts to karaoke, from Google Doodles to dance, we're doing it all!

Drama is in full swing
To compliment our month of the arts, the production of the Magical Land of Oz is underway.  The auditions are over, the cast is complete, and rehearsals are set to begin.  Mrs. McGlinchey and Mr. T will be running lines with the cast as Ms. A. helps tune up their coval cords.

Mrs. Sattler will be on the lookout for any flying monkeys.  They really give her the creeps.

We're definitely not in Kansas any more, and there's no place like HGS for fantastic musicals!

A VISIT FROM STEVE PERRIN
Local conservationist, Steve Perrin, will be visiting ASP on March 29th to share his knowledge of our local ecosystems through his powerful and evocative powerpoint presentation.  Parents are invited to join us.  More info to come.

Mist Moving In

On March 22, ASP will be traveling to the studio of local artist Philip Frey.  5th and 6th grade students will ahve the opportunity to visit a working art studio, view the works of Philip Frey and ask questions of the artist.

Space on this trip will be limited.  Please be watching for more info and permission slips to come home.

HUG A GI DAY
March 4th is a day that we all can embrace.  It's "Hug a GI Day".  Use this day to give a great big hug to the veterans in your life.  It's a simple way to thank the men and women of the armed forces for their service and dedication to our country.  Their service is invaluable and vital to our country.  So, "March Forth!" and hug a GI on March 4th!

WHAT'S COOKIN
We will explore the culinary arts through regular cooking segments this month.  We will make each part of a meal, from the appetizers to the dessert.  Parents, if you come early, you may get to sample some of our creations.  By the end of the month, your child should be able to prepare dinner for your family AND clean up afterwards.

GOOGLE DOODLE
Google is holding a "Google Doodle" contest.  Any student interested may create his/her own unique Google Doodle to submit.  The winning submission will be featured on Google.  Parent permission is required for submission.  We will send home entry forms with students wishing to participate.

K-2 Extended Day Program
As the weather turns colder, please sned your child to school with all the items he/she needs to stay warm and dry outside.  Boots, snow pants, hats, and mittens are a must on cold snowy days.
ASP for Grades 3-5

In addition, we cannot accept notes stating that students may go to the game following ASP.  We always require an adult to sign them out.
REACH
Our students' safety is of the utmost importance to us.  To that end, we require that all students be signed out of our program by an ADULT.  Please note that our student athletes are no exception to this rule.  No athlete will be allowed to leave the program to attend practive until a coach has signed him/her out.  In addition, any athlete wishing to attend REACH before or after practive must be enrolled in the program.
